The influence of vegetation cover on soil water balance has been studied more rigorously due to the need for environmental resilience to extreme precipitation and drought events. Hydrographic Region IX - RJ undergoes an intense process of soil degradation in hill areas with degraded pasture. Watershed recovery plans and water production require more precise studies on this influence with regional data aiming at efficiency in the use of public resources. In this context, the objective of this research is to evaluate the effect of vegetation cover on subsurface water recharge based on hydrological simulation with calibrated and field-validated modeling parameters. For this purpose, an electronic device was developed for monitoring soil moisture and precipitation. The predominant vegetation covers of RH-IX are being studied: degraded pasture, managed pasture, and forest. The results can support watershed recovery plans for public water supply and actions to reduce water footprint.Downloads
