Abstract

This work investigates the role of topography on the coastal upwelling efficiency off the coast of Cabo Frio, RJ, through the implementation of process-study numerical simulations in a semi-idealized ocean. The hypothesis that the Cabo Frio continental shelf bathymetry promotes the strength in the upwelling process is confirmed, and according to the simulations results, the coastal upwelling in narrow shelves are stronger than in broad shelves, under the same constant and spatially homogeneous NE wind forcing.
