Abstract

This paper discusses the history and process of implementation of the Defense Council of the Historical Heritage of Franca, SP, considering the proposals and practices developed by the agency, and its connection with the urban planning and master plan designed for the municipality. The paper presents two main lines of analysis: the introduction of urban sustainability issues in public policy, and the actions of the defense of the industrial heritage in a city of great vitality and economic growth. The research methodology used a survey in local newspapers and on local legislation, finding that the historical landmark designations were considered only buildings constructed until the third decade of the twentieth century.
