The municipality of Bom Jesus do Itabapoana, located in the northwest of Rio de Janeiro State, has severely compromised its environmental quality. In this context, the objective of this work is the development of an environmental assessment for the municipality by means of a literature review. We concluded that the main target of all this degradation is the Itabapoana River, which is affected by hydroelectric projects, receives untreated domestic wastewater, and has silted and erosion focus stretches. In addition, high rates of deforestation contribute to the acceleration of soil erosion. The city lacks public policies focused on the subject since programs for environmental preservation are not developed.Downloads
