Abstract

This review aims to present some biotic and abiotic parameters that have been used to determine water quality and its influence on phytoplankton biodiversity. The decrease in phytoplankton biodiversity in polluted environments can change all the trophic structure of the ecosystem since this community is the base of the food chain in these environments. Knowledge of the different parameters that determine water quality is important for the management and conservation of aquatic ecosystems. Usually, parameters are of easy access and interpretation which allows broad monitoring of water quality across the country.
