Challenges and opportunities in implementing Zero Waste management: Case study in a biotechnology company in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes (RJ)

“Zero Waste” is a concept of life, where human beings and all organizations related to them are led to reflection and greater awareness of the paths and destinations of waste, before disposal. It is a sustainable concept, which encompasses the transformation of solid waste into reusable resources, inspired by natural cycles. Therefore, the present work aims to analyze the challenges and opportunities in implementing “Zero Waste” management in a biotechnology company in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes (RJ). It refers to a case study, of an exploratory nature, guided by qualitative data, addressing the importance of “Zero Waste” management, the evolution of solid waste disposal methods in the company in question, the resistance variables and the possibilities for the full scope of the concept applied to management. The results of the analysis point to a significant evolution in “Zero Waste” management, which had, by the year 2023, only 2% of waste destined for landfills. However, it continues to seek the 0% mark, in line with its specific goals, based on Sustainable Development Goal 12.Downloads
