Abstract

This study describes the stages of oil and gas wells drilling, dealing specifically with waste production and the fluids used in drilling. It discusses the limitations and the possibility of disposing drilling fluid waste near the platform based on the 2014 draft by IBAMA, the Brazilian environmental agency that regulates waste disposal. We reviewed results of works applying computational modeling to study the waste disposal from drilling and cementing activities during construction of oil and gas wells. We analyzed the dispersal area taking into account ocean currents, temperature and depth, as well as its environmental effects.
