This paper presents an account of a didactic sequence developed within the discipline Laboratory for Teaching and Learning in Mathematics (LEAMAT) which was applied to a group of 7th graders in a public school of Campos dos Goytacazes and for a group of teachers from the same school system. The instructional sequence in question prioritizes the use of geometric tools as an aid to the study of quadrilaterals and as a remarkable feature to promote meaningful learning.
