Abstract

This study analyses the air monitoring data from the region of Campos dos Goytacazes (Brazil) concerning the years of 2012, 2013 and 2015, by collecting data containing mass values of airborne particles. The whole set of data was obtained from the large volume samplers (Hi-Vol) of INEA - State Environmental Institute, and it was only taken into consideration the factors that were considerably influential: automotive vehicle flow; population increase; occurrence of cane fields burnings; and also climatological factors (precipitation index, obtained from INMET - National Institute of Meteorology). Furthermore, a statistical work was carried out in order to note any tendentious observance and/or to fill any absence of data. It was noticed that the rainfall regime played an important role in the settlement of the airborne particles, establishing an inversely proportional ratio. The population growth, associated to the increase of vehicles in that area, resulted on a higher quantity of particles to be released and dispersed in the air. Both the fire outbreaks and the preferential periods for the burnings were set, and it was concluded that they influence on the concentrations of airborne material particles. It was also noticed in the study some discrepancies between the two different collecting points, what may be result of local influences and peculiarities.
