Abstract

Associated with the increase of pollution on water bodies, the rising demand for water put the users’ health at risk. According to the World Health Organization, 80% of the diseases come from contaminate water. In the mountainous region of municipality of Macaé, in 2002, there were incident of waterborne diseases (hepatitis). Therefore, this paper evaluates the methods applied for water treatment and the quality of collected and distributed water for public supply in the regions of Bicuda Grande, Óleo and Frade, which possesses simplified treatment systems, aiming to propose alternatives that minimize the risks to the population’s health.
