Abstract

In environments suffering from environmental degradation, synanthropic animals, or who live in cities, usually find food and housing in domestic yards, which have been scarce, but have various contributions to the ecological balance. This study aims to identify the presence of the synanthropic fauna in urban backyards, as well as to verify if there is an association between floristic and faunistic diversity. Visits and interviews were made, forming a survey of reports of synanthropic animals. Each yard presented particularities. Thirty species of animals - with highlights for insects and birds -, influence of the backyard’s permeability, species not found and incomprehension of the population as to the importance of the synanthropic fauna were reported.
