Abstract

The term Soundscape emerged with the aim of relating to the variety of sounds in the environment (biophony, geophony and anthrophony) and their influence on ecological processes with the traditional concept of landscape. The objective of this work is to compare the acoustic complexity of a preserved restinga area and an area of vegetation dominated by Casuarina equisetifolia L. in the city of Cabo Frio/RJ. The recordings were obtained from an autonomous system, analyzed using the Raven Pro 1.5 software and the acoustic complexity values were calculated using an Acoustic Complexity Index (ACI), using the R 3.6 version software. The results suggest a greater number of biophonic records and, consequently, greater acoustic complexity in the restinga area, especially during dusk. The ACI values obtained reflect a statistically significant change between the soundscape of the preserved restinga area and the casuarinas area, given the reduction in vegetation diversity. Through the study of soundscapes, we seek to understand the complex networks of ecological interactions, serving as a basis for decision making, with regard to environmental management.
