Between concepts and policies: an analysis of the contribution of political ST&I for the Brazilian sustainable development

Abstract

The article first examines the emergence of the concept of sustainable development and its variations. Following, it evaluates the importance of policies aimed at the issue, such as science, technology and innovation (STI), as well as education. Sustainability is currently focused in analyses of the role of STI in the pursuit of development. Economic theories and international experiences note that the role of innovation in the production process, when coming from good qualification, contributes to sustained and sustainable development of a country. Following international trends and new paradigms, the study presents the Science without Borders Program, as part of the current set of actions in STI. With a brief analysis on the feasibility and challenges for achieving that governmental action, the study indicates some institutional mechanisms that should be observed for the effectiveness of the program.

    Mestranda em Desenvolvimento Sustentável, na área de concentração de Política e Gestão de C&T, do CDS/UnB. Especialista em Direitos Humanos pela UCB. Com bacharelado em Ciências Sociais/ habilitação em Antropologia e licenciatura em Ciências Sociais pela UnB.Atualmente, é analista em ciência e tecnologia do CNPq e encontra-se licenciada para assuntos particulares no cargo de professora na SEDF. Foi técnica em assuntos educacionais na ENAP, educadora social em meio ambiente na SEDEST-DF, antropóloga na OSCIP IDESPA, escriturária no BB e estagiária, inicialmente, na FUNAI.
