Abstract

Seeking differentiation in a highly competitive market, Ville La Plage Hotel, located in Armação dos Búzios - RJ, got certified in sustainability in 2009 by NBR15401. Like other tourism certification programs, the objective of NBR15401 is to "reduce the negative environmental impacts on natural resources of tourist destinations by encouraging adherence by companies, the education of tourists in respecting the choices and the actions to develop standards for environmentally friendly services” (OLIVEIRA, 2012). Thus, this study aims to show the affirmative environmental actions taken by the hotel studied in its efforts to minimize the damage caused by its operations.
