Abstract

Oil platforms use two types of desalination for water production in their units: vacuum distillation in which the principle is to distill sea water through vacuum generation and lowering the boiling temperature and, by reverse osmosis, in which sea water flows through a set of membranes retaining the salt particles. With increasing consumer demand due to the increase of onboard personnel for the maintenance of the units (degradation by elapsed time operation), some desalination units have difficulty in meeting their project proposals. Maintenance problems, sizing, and depreciation of the system can be pointed as causes of efficiency loss and consequent autonomy of the platform in the production and consumption of fresh water. This is a situation that refers to the need for significant freshwater inflow, sent to the production units via towing vessels. Tugs are the primary means of input to the supply units in the Campos Basin to transport food, materials, equipment, fresh water, among others. However, besides the operating cost of transport, one verifies an increase in the collection and treatment of water from the spring known as the Brejo da Severina.
