Abstract

The lack of adequate urban planning combined with the population density and the poor infrastructure are factors that aggravate the quality of life in the city. This article analyzes and discusses about an important urban element that is often suppressed, but that guarantees the pedestrian basic right to come and go: the sidewalks. From theoretical studies and in loco observation, laws and conflicts and more joint ventures will be presented, highlighting the need to encourage management plans about sidewalks and the elements inserted in them, contributing to the improvement of urban life.

    Mestrado no Programa de Engenharia Urbana da POLI-UFRJ; Especialização em Engenharia de Segurança do Trabalho e Gestão Ambiental pela UNESA - RJ; Graduação em Engenharia Agronômica pela UFRRJ. Engenheiro Agrônomo pela NIKKEY no Rio de Janeiro há 10 anos.
  • Gisele Silva Barbosa, Professora Adjunta da Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, do Departamento de Expressão Gráfica da Escola Politécnica (POLI-UFRJ). Professora do Programa de Pós-graduação em Engenharia Urbana da UFRJ.
    Possui Doutorado em Urbanismo pela Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro, Mestrado em Urbanismo pela mesma Instituição, Pós-graduação em Metodologia do Ensino Superior pela Faculdade Salesiana (Católica) e Graduação em Arquitetura e Urbanismo pela Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora. Tem experiência na área de Arquitetura e Urbanismo e de Engenharia Urbana, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: urbanismo, sustentabilidade, projeto urbano e expressão gráfica.
