Abstract

The anthropization process without efficient planning usually causes problems for the environment, causing instabilities in ecosystems and, consequently, bringing problems for the population. In Teresina (PI), in April 2019, a wall that dammed the waters of an abandoned club broke, fatally killing two people and homeless dozens. The aim of the project was to highlight the dangers arising from the process of occupation of areas at risk, as well as the factors that motivate it. Research was done in documents and articles related to the themes: urbanization and risk areas, with follow up of articles in news portals of the city. In addition, a technical visit to the site was carried out in order to obtain the report of any resident. Finally, it can be understood that the appropriation of environmentally fragile areas directly impacts the environment, having as results economic and social problems.
