The evaluation of soil fertility involves sampling processes, methods of analysis, techniques for diagnosing the results, models of interpretation and recommendation of correctives and fertilizers. The Analysis Center (CA) of the Federal Rural University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRRJ) is an accredited laboratory with Embrapa, part of the Quality Analysis Program of Fertility Laboratories (PAQLF), with concept A. An important action of extension carried out by the CA is assisting rural producers, mainly from the North and Northwest of Rio de Janeiro, through technical guidance for the correct recommendation of limestone and fertilizers. In 2018, CA made 88 recommendations for fertilizing and liming for different soils, crops and plants. In total, there were 34 crops, with the highest demand for pastures / forages (30%), and sugarcane and citrus (both 7%). Other crops, such as pineapple, accounted for 3% of technical recommendations. With the results of chemical analysis of the soil, 62 municipalities were served, and of the total recommendations, the highest demand was for Campos dos Goytacazes, representing 41% of the total. A significant amount of those recommendations refers to pastures or some type of plant suitable for animal feed. The values achieved demonstrate an increase in the diversity of crops in the region and, consequently, an improvement in the management of fertilization and plant nutrition.Downloads
