Abstract

Based on the assumption that the visual disability doesn’t stop the students from mobilizing their cognitive capacity on the production of the significant concepts and that the utilization of a concrete material facilitates their learning, the present short course seeks to emphasize the importance of the construction and application of the didactic materials specifically for visually disabled people and directed to the teaching of Mathematics. In the legal aspect, schools should adapt to the new guidelines, being attentive to the educational needs of such students, identifying their main difficulties and searching for creating alternatives that allow the insertion of them, as they are in the learning process of the school context. On the specific case of the visually disabled people, it’s crucial that the school and the teachers develop conditions of accessing the knowledge considered essential for them to advance in the construction of such knowledge. The utilization of the didactic material has revealed as a differential point on the schooling process of the visually disabled students.
