Graph Theory. High School. History of Mathematics. Problem Solving. Mathematical Modeling.
Abstract
In recent decades, researches in the area of Mathematics Education have suggested the approach of Graph Theory in Elementary and Secondary Education, glimpsing the enhanced presence of discrete mathematics in Basic Education. In this scene, since 2009 the Basic Curriculum of the state of Espírito Santo began to provide the teaching of Graphs for the last two years of High School. Given the curricular inclusion, the need to discuss this topic with students and teachers of Basic Education emerges. This short course presents and discusses proposals for inclusion of this topic in Basic Education. The discussions will be guided in the light of the History of Mathematics, Problem Solving and Mathematical Modeling in activities pertaining to each of these methodologies. We find that the development of graph theory leads us to problems that are simple in their understanding, and therefore accessible and timely for High School.
