Abstract

Changes in the concentration of indicators of water quality of the Paraíba do Sul river caused by pollution can affect the chemical behavior of water and its most important uses, such as supplies of millions of people in southeastern Brazil. Faced with this context, the aim of this work is to monitor the water quality of the Paraíba do Sul river across to the Unidade de Pesquisa e Extensão Agroambiental – UPEA (campus Rio Paraíba do Sul). Physical, chemical and microbiological testing of water were performed and the analytical results were compared with the CONAMA Resolution 357/2005. Values greater than allowed turbidity were found during the rainy season that occurs greater drag of clay minerals and some amounts of fecal coliform were above the limit set for annual monitoring.
