Abstract

The Brazilian process of urbanization has resulted in the occupation of environmentally fragile areas, especially in the population with the lowest income, which seek to solve their housing problem. This study aimed to develop a literature review on urban drainage and the development of cities, and a case study in the town of Três Vendas, municipality of Campos dos Goytacazes/RJ. Region precarious infrastructure and transport planning, the local population suffers with the imminent flood risk and lacks an urban intervention that provide better housing to the community. We sought to understand natural phenomena that influence the flooding of the Muriaé River and how human interference can also be harmful. The opinion of residents was obtained through interviews. Besides participatory research, literature searches and field surveys.
