Urban waters of Carapebus‑RJ: problems and potentialities

Landscape planning and the integration of open space systems are essential for more sustainable and equitable cities. This study focuses on water bodies and their importance in urban structuring, with a focus on the city of Carapebus, in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Landscape planning organizes land use and natural resources, seeking a balance between environmental preservation and human needs. This involves analyzing topography, vegetation, hydrography, and biodiversity, as well as the socioeconomic and cultural aspects of the population. The methodology adopted is based on Landscape Reading. Hand-drawn maps were used to detail urban growth, biogeophysical support, flood vulnerability, and the location of Public Open Spaces. The study also involved the use of QGIS software. Researchers identified three main areas in the urban zone. The analysis considered five regions, which were delimited due to similar and contiguous challenges and opportunities. Alternatives were suggested for the integration of environmental and historical protection, aiming at the preservation of the FMP, as well as the creation of a Municipal Ecological Park and a Linear Park.Downloads
