Sustainable and fiscal perspective for construction waste in a small town: the case of Montividiu-GO in light of the 2030 Agenda

This article addresses the challenge of construction waste management, considering the waste of construction materials and the irregular disposal of construction and demolition waste in public spaces. This scenario stems from the activities developed within the production chain of the civil construction industry, reflecting the urbanization process in the contemporary world. Within this context lies the expansion of cities linked to transformations in the forms of urban land use and occupation. The investigation seeks to highlight the impact of the generation and irregular disposal of debris in small city. It encompasses a brief thematic overview, data analysis, field research, and a documentary study on the legislation governing construction and demolition waste in public spaces, urban, and municipal waste policies. A case study on the impact of construction waste in Montividiu-GO is conducted, utilizing images from on-site inspections and satellite imagery. The investigation notes that public management faces challenges regarding the inappropriate destination of construction waste and the waste of construction materials. It contributes by proposing the incorporation of the United Nations' 2030 Agenda Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with actions for their recovery and use in new construction elements, paving the way for the recognition of the right to the sustainable city, given the breadth of the theme. Finally, the research showed that big bags can be a viable alternative to promote sustainable construction practices, by contributing to the mitigation of construction material and debris waste, as well as the reuse of these inputs through donations to low-income families, charitable organizations, or urban infrastructure improvement initiatives, thus promoting the adoption of sustainable consumption practices with environmental responsibility - aiming for full benefits for all, including future generations.Downloads
