Abstract

This work presents an experiment developed at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN) through the extension project: “Pro-Mathematics / Portuguese Language-IF”, aimed at 9th grade students in public schools of the municipality of Canguaretama. This Project aimed to assist the admission of students who intended to study in Secondary Education Integrated to Professional Education at IFRN, in addition to supporting the students’ development of the teaching-learning process of the Portuguese Language and Mathematics classes in their schools. The activities were developed through expository classes, resolutions of questions from previous tests, and familiarization activities with the IFR by presenting school spaces and community to the students. We believe this approach is important to stimulate the students' self-confidence and motivation in their studies. Among other results, the project demonstrated that it can contribute to the school performance of those involved, with qualification being possible for some in the Selection Process.
