Abstract

The study aimed to perform a diagnostic collection and transport of crab cordatus Ucides the community Gargaú, São Francisco do Itabapoana / RJ. The land crab is an important fishing resource, generating jobs and income for many families in the community. Field visits to the town of Gargaú were held in the second half of 2013, and 20 semi-structured forms applied to the main actors. The scavenger encompass empirical knowledge about the mangrove ecosystem and the productive chain of the crab. Many collectors still use improper collection techniques resulting in reduced catch of crab and increased fishing effort.
