Abstract

The physicochemical monitoring of the operational parameters of a sewage treatment plant is important once it serves as the basis for adopting measures that aim to improve the quality of the final effluent. This study aimed to monitor twelve physicochemical parameters of the sewage treatment plant of Armação dos Búzios from September 2010 to August 2013. All effluent parameters were in accordance with the legislation, except total nitrogen and phosphorus, which remained in disagreement with state legislation in only one month of research each. The removal efficiencies of biochemical oxygen demand and total suspended solids increased as the monitoring progressed and were considered very satisfactory. It is possible to affirm that the estimated flows will not exceed the project flow for any of the considered return conditions. The present study will serve as a basis for reliability analysis of sewage treatment plants in Rio de Janeiro State, unprecedented for the area, but it has already carried out in other regions of the country.
