The purpose of this article is to analyse military government action in the area of culture and the work of journalist Aramis Millarch (1943-1992) regarding Brazilian popular music criticism in the newspaper O ESTADO DO PARANA from 1965 to 1975. Analysis of the official document Política Nacional de Cultura (1975) shows that it aimed at the formation of national identity and consumption incentive. Regarding Millarch’s criticism, we defined six categories: 1) The Best Popular Music; 2) Brazilian Popular Music Researchers Association; 3) Popular Music in Paraná; 4) Recording Industry; 5) Musical Appreciation; 6) Audience Distinction.Downloads
