This article intends to show the peculiar acculturation process of the Afro-Brazilian population as they incorporated traditional elements of European and African cultures and adapting them to the new social context. We believe that, by broadening our understanding of African History, through a specialized bibliographic research, we are contributing to pay our social and historical debt to a large portion of the Brazilian population, and promoting a shift in our perspective and in the construction of a more democratic model of citizenship for all Brazilians.Downloads
