The novel Nine Nights by Bernardo Carvalho, was published in 2002 and has been wide acclaimed In this book, Carvalho entangled reality (history) and fiction, and works with a set of multiple voices in the construction of discourse. The novel is open for literary criticism in two different senses which, at the same time, complement each other: the study of the relationship between fiction and history, and polyphony, a concept defined and theorized by Mikhail Bakhtin. Because we believe in the complementarity of these two lines of critical analysis, this paper intends to do a study under these two perspectives of analysis.Downloads
