Partisanship and electorate in Campos dos Goytacazes: among clans, tribes and republican practices

This analysis aims to understand the main strata of voters in Campos dos Goytacazes by means of a review of the recent history of electoral participation and partisanship in the city along with an analysis based on the concept of clan by Oliveira Vianna. Despite the modern Brazilian institutional political apparatus, many social practices still prevail. Nevertheless, no other country in the Western world has had, in its electoral process, republican practices - in the Weberian sense - since the beginning of voters’ participation. This diachronism refers to the interpretation of Brazil by Werneck Vianna, particularly, the adaptation of the concept of passive revolution.Downloads
