Abstract

The visits and hospitalizations related to respiratory tract infections are still a major cause of morbidity and mortality in childhood. The acute respiratory infections still account for 30 a 60% of pediatric visits and up to 10% of hospitalizations of children, and can reach up to 42% of pediatric care. The objective of this work is to know the clinical and epidemiological profile of care in pediatric emergency care within the group of respiratory infections in a public hospital in Campos dos Goytacazes. We analyzed the medical records of 50 patients treated at the Hospital Geral de Guarus emergency service, followed by hospitalization due to respiratory infections. The results lead us to conclude that most children is up to 2 years old, male, from Campos and seek emergency by morning, with asthma or no comorbidity, and they are hospitalized for one week, and within the hospital pass by thoracic radiography and blood test, with infiltrates and consolidation on x-ray, being diagnosed with pneumonia associated or not with other disease and receive treatment based in antipyretic, β2 agonists, corticosteroids, hydration and antibiotics, especially penicillin.
