Abstract

This study analyzes the use of mechanisms of coherence and textual cohesion in compositions written by third-year students from the Secondary Vocational Education at the Technical Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology Rondônia – IFRO – campus Ariquemes . We use the concepts of text, coherence and cohesion by Bakhtin (1992), Beaugrande and Dressler (1981), Bernardez (1982), Kock (1998, 2003), Koch and Travaglia (1997; 2004) and Marcuschi (1983; 2008). We observed that approaches to textual coherence and cohesion can become discussion mechanisms in the classroom and take students to the practice of rewriting.
