Abstract

A large amount of waste associated with their composition variability is a characteristic of the industrial society model. In face of such a highly adverse scenario, it is necessary to develop a comprehensive strategy to fight environmental contamination. Reduction and control of these effects associated with such contamination require appropriate waste management and disposal. Within this context, this dissertation joins theory and practice, as it develops a diagnosis of the waste generated in an industrial system, based on the identification of all the waste produced in both qualitative and quantitative terms. Thus, this study presents details of the waste generated by an industrial plant that produces organic acid by fermentation; emphasizing the risk involved in each waste sample, by means of a hazard classification. With these data, the study suggests an industrial and organizational structure to reduce environmental impact associated with waste disposal – a system compatible with the economic viability of the company. This work also proposes guidelines for social visibility of the company’s activities within its surrounding community.
