Abstract

The Paraíba do Sul River comprises the largest hydrographic basin in Rio de Janeiro State, and concentrates one of the most important economic regions of South America, with numerous industrial activities. Concerning the Electrical Sector, there is a series of hydropower projects in that basin, including the Itaocara Hydropower Plant. The project contemplates flooding of areas within the Fluvial Islands Domain in the low and medium course of the Paraíba do Sul River. As a result, this work indicates evaluation methods and techniques which can be used to estimate implementation, operation and decommissioning damages caused by the Itaocara Hydropower project.
