Abstract

This paper presents a proposal of evaluation of the development of a revegetation and environmental restoration plan in areas of clay pits in the city of Campos dos Goytacazes. A selection was carried out to identify which tree species were the most suitable to the new environment of low fertility, thus starting an ecological restoration in this area with the purpose of using it as lands set aside for legal reserve in farming properties. Consequently, becoming an interesting and environmental economically option capable of contributing to the CO2 absorption, greenhouse gas reduction and being included in Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) projects. The environmental restoration project was implemented in a clay pit, with 112 native tree seedlings from 12 different species, pioneer and secondary.
