Abstract

The research was carried out in Macaé (RJ), a city that suffers with considerable environmental damage due to the exploration of off-shore oil, gas, and logistics as well. Thus the relevance of the role of the Environmental Enforcer in the control of both urban and rural environment, in order to avoid environmental degradation and apply fines prescribed in the legislation. The study intended to identify the  environmental fines that were most imposed in Macaé from 2005 to 2014, as well as their relations with the social and economic features of the distinct neighborhoods and their effects on the urban environment.
