Algae are relatively simple photoautotrophic eukaryotic organisms that do not possess tissues. The proliferation of certain microscopic algae can cause various effects which are perceived by humans as harmful. The objective of this study was to monitor the phytoplankton community in points near the mussel cultivation at Rasa Beach, with an emphasis on potential toxin-producing species. The samples were collected between February 2014 and March 2015. Seventy-nine taxa were recorded. Diatoms were predominant in this study. Separations between summer and winter were recorded. This work could serve as a basis for future monitoring efforts of harmful algal blooms in the city.Downloads
