Application of reverse engineering for probabilistic assessment of slope stability

This paper presents a back-analysis study of a landslide occurred on BR-153 Highway. The landslide history, the climate characteristics of the region and the geotechnical parameters obtained in a laboratory and field experimental program are presented. Retroanalysis shows that the rupture occurred due to groundwater rising to the soil surface. The estimated value of the rupture probability was influenced by the slope geometry, the groundwater position, position of critical surface and method of stability analysis, in addition to the variation in geotechnical parameters.Downloads
