Between memory and invisibility: the history of black enslavement in Northwestern of Rio de Janeiro

This article proposes to investigate the procedures for making black slavery invisible in history of municipalities in the Northwest regions of the State of Rio de Janeiro, seeking to highlight, give new meaning and enhance the memory of such a population, highlighting how such practice connects to the importance of Human Rights in the past and today. Thus, the process of enslavement marked and still deeply marks the history of the construction of Brazilian identity, since the developments of the inter-Atlantic trafficking. In this sense, it is essential to consider the relevance of enslaved populations in the historical formation of several Brazilian municipalities. This way, they played a role that goes beyond the forced exploitation of their labor, but, mainly, to reinforce their existence and relevance so that the understanding of one of the fundamental principles of Human Rights is made possible, that is, the right to memory and relevant agents in the socio/cultural and historical formation of municipalities in the Northwest Fluminense region.Downloads
