Abstract

Life quality is an abstract concept associated with satisfaction in family, affective, social or environmental life, a synthesis of what a particular society may consider as comfort and well-being. This dissertation studies the Quality of Life Synthetic Index (QLI) of Campos dos Goytacazes using data from the Demographic Census of 2000, organized according to specific surveyed areas. The methodology in this study uses social and economical variants of recognized validity and technical reliability which aim at portraying the reality of the investigated population. In the study we avoided the use of very complex indicators in order to facilitate the use of the methodological process in similar investigations. The QLI-Campos enables speculation about how the citizens relate to their constitutional rights, which are under the responsibility of the local government. The researched LQI found clear inequalities, in each investigated geographic area suggesting further research to understand the reasons for the persistence of social inequalities.
