Abstract

This article examines the role of philosophy, theories of education and knowledge in the construction of society and in the formation of the individual. This study aims to elucidate the ideals of education and formation of man through historical and philosophical aspects. The theoretical conceptions of some classical thinkers, from ancient Greece, through Alexandria, to modernity, are presented and current tendencies and perspectives on education and society are highlighted. As Education is a discipline involving objectives, philosophy can demonstrate its importance, and contribute to the reflection on the type of appropriate formation.
