From a personal experience, in which my ethnic classification was in discussion, I analyze the interpretation of Brazilian racial dilemma in the works of four authors: Gilberto Freyre, Florestan Fernandes, Roberto da Matta and Fabio Wanderley Reis. I discuss, in a comparative way, concepts in those works, such as racial democracy and the integration of black people in the class society, looking for the agreements and disagreements that canonized Freyre’s and Florestan’s interpretations. I claim that all responses to racism made by them touch upon reality, but are far from being verdicts to the problem. My reasoning is based on a process of reflexivity (a concept in Sociology) brought by my own experience and ethnic classification.Downloads
