The influence of family social-economics conditions on basic education quality at in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro State

Aiming at comparing academic performances of participants in the High School National Exam (ENEM)to their family income, parent’s schooling and kind of school (public or private), this article analyzes the iniquity existing on the educational scenario in the northern region of Rio de Janeiro State. Results show that the family social economic conditions and the kind of school (private or public) have a strong effect on the quality of basic education. The percentage of students in state schools with good to excellent performance in the exam, for instance, is only 0,2%, while the percentage of private and federal school students is, respectively, 11,4% and 17,6%.Downloads
