Models of discrete eventsimulation as a training environment for digital control

Abstract

Practical training is an essential part in the process of teaching and learning in digital control. The use of simulators in classes of automation has recently been highlighted effectively in this context. This paper describes, then, two simulation models built to demonstrate the possibility of using software of discrete event simulation as a training environment of logic of automatic control of industrial processes in real time. It was performed the integration of a simulation model built with the software Arena, receiving command signal from a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). The virtual environment proposed, originated from the simulation model, fostered the development of different tests of control logic. The results of this study clearly demonstrated the possibility of student interactivity with a discrete simulation model for practical training with automated control systems.
