Abstract

This paper aims to examine the condition of Afghan women and the sexual division of labor from the novel "The Bookseller of Kabul", by Norwegian journalist Asne Seierstad, written in 2002. Seierstad lived for three months with the atypical family of a bookseller in Afghanistan and could follow its routine. Disgusted with the women's living conditions produced a report that can be understood from the gender as a category of sociological analysis. Thus, this paper will use excerpts from the book and discuss them in the light of theories.
