The right to literature in Quarto de despejo: social report and humanization through the word

This article examines Quarto de despejo: diário de uma favelada, by Carolina Maria de Jesus, considering literature as aesthetic creation, a form of expression, and a knowledge source. Based on bibliographic research and textual analysis, this article analyses how the narrative organizes experiences of poverty, segregation, and resistance, linking them to different dimensions of the literary phenomenon. The study is based on the theoretical contributions of Antonio Candido (1995), Luana Barossi (2017), Gilmar Penteado (2018), among others. The findings show that literature acts as a human right, an instrument of humanization and social transformation, expanding the reader’s awareness of historical inequalities and marginalized experiences. It concludes that the work reaffirms literature as a space of social expression, critique, and ethical sensitivity, setting its cultural and educational value.Downloads
