Abstract

As in most parts of Brazil, the city of Campos dos Goytacazes, located in the Northern region of the state of Rio de Janeiro, is a privileged area regarding natural water distribution. However, for its vast territorial extension and disordered growth, some of its localities do not have public water supply or lack basic sanitation, which stimulates the use of septic tanks. This dissertation focuses on the analysis of the water consumed by the population of Campo Novo and Venda Nova. We observed the irregularities on the places where wells were excavated, as well as the great occurrence of waterborne diseases propagation among their inhabitants. In this scenario, we propose water treatment alternatives for these communities such as the development of a low cost water treatment station which may enable high quality water distribution of for the agricultural communities.
