Floods are caused by disorderly urbanization and the deficiency of adequate drainage systems, generating changes in surface runoff. Flood mitigation techniques have been a way to alleviate the problem and the study of implementation of these techniques becomes relevant for choosing the most efficient measures for each situation. The use of mathematical and computational hydrological models helps in this analysis, making it possible to simulate the implementation of these techniques in different scenarios. Therefore, this paper aims to present a brief history of hydrological modeling and the main concepts in the theme of flood mitigation, as well as a systematic review that answers the following research question: How are flood mitigation proposals in urban areas evaluated with mathematical or computational modeling tools? The systematic review points to the gap of the need for more studies on this topic, since the analyzed studies, for the most part, do not generate a computational tool capable of helping in the decision process of the techniques to be used.Downloads
