Energy is a theme addressed in all segments of formal education, non-formal education, the media, and everyday conversation. Human dependence on energy is notorious. The pattern of human behavior has changed as of the industrial revolutions. Thus, a concept of the environment was created as it being a reserve of matter and energy. This notion has become hegemonic with regards to the way of approaching the environmental issue. In this sense, the study had the objective of analyzing high school senior students’ perception of the school subject of energy in the technical course on Environment at the Instituto Federal Fluminense (IFF) Campus Campos Guarus (Brazil). We aimed at understanding how students perceive the concepts of non-renewable, renewable and clean energy and what would be the consequences of this perception for their professional practices. The majority of students did not show clarity and confidence in most of the answers regarding energy. Thus, the results indicate the need to discuss the implementation of a discipline that could deal with the future technicians the energy issues relevant to their professional performance and their role in society.Downloads
